Recent moves indicate that Best Buy appears to be taking steps to refocus its efforts to step up its presence in Mobile Electronics and Car Audio.
These move may signal companies efforts to both improve its lagging performance in 12 volt and to position the company for the coming product generation in the emerging connected car market.
According to industry reports Best Buy is expanding its trial program of adding dedicated 12 volt sales staff. While the number of participating stores remains small, the expansion indicates the trial program is getting traction with management.
In the big picture, the future connected car market should open the doors to a wide range of products that will ultimately have to be installed in consumer vehicles.
In other current relevant news, Best Buy recently announced new buying and merchandising responsibilities. Randall Schwartz, Best Buy current Senior Merchant Connected Car Services, Parts and Accessories has been assigned traditional car stereo products to his arena.
12 Volt has long been a fading category inside Best Buy, but these recent changes portend a new awareness that might bring new energy in the aftermarket mobile electronic industry.
