The plural form of the Toyota Prius recently came to a head with the expansion of the hybrid family. Vehicles include the Prius plug-in (check out our Prius PHEV test here), while the Prius v and Prius c concepts at the Detoit show and the Prius + concept coming to the 2011 Geneva show foreshadow future Prius-branded vehicles.

To help it determine the name, Toyota took the vote to the people with a campaign that began at the 2011 Detroit auto show and concluded at the Chicago show. The competitors were: Prius, Priuses, Prium and Prien in addition to Prii. Helping to add an air of legitimacy to the process was the announcement by Dictonary.com that it will officially add Prii to its Prius entry as the car’s plural name.
In the ensuing six weeks, more than 1.8-million voters cast ballots. While Prii won with some 25 percent of the votes, it was close, as Prius came in just a percentage point behind.
